Text at the entrance of the memorial park, commemorating Wicklow’s war dead:
Woodenbridge World War I Memorial Park
Dedicated to the memory of Wicklow’s war dead.
A Soldier’s Grave
Then in the lull of midnight, gentle arms
Lifted him slowly down the slopes of earth
Lest he should hear again the mad alarms
Of battle, dying moans and painful breath.
And when the earth was soft for flowers we made
A grave for him that he might better rest
So, spring shall come and leave it sweet arrayed
And there the lark shall turn her dewy nest.
Francis Ledwidge. Died at the Battle of Passchendaele, 1917
The memorial in the Memorial Park commemorates the residents of County Wicklow who were killed or missing in the Great War (World War I).
