This memorial commemorates the residents of Desselgem who died in the First and Second World War.
Many of these memorials were erected after the First World War. After the Second World War, the names of those who died in that war were also added to the memorial.
Next to the monument is a plaque with the text of the Committee of Liberation and Peace:
"The Committee of Liberation and Peace and the entire population of Desselgem
hereby express forever their gratitude and gratitude to the
Allied casualties of both wars and this one in particular
whose comrades restored our freedom to us in September 1944
which we all now enjoy so happily and prosperously.
They lie so quietly and lonely, buried under their stone in the sand
spread across our regions so far from their loved ones and homeland
or their blood or flesh are mixed with the fiery churned earth on the front
Free man who is now alive, you give these sacrifices sufficient and sincere value."
