Monument (made in 1994 by Ben Snauwaert from a wreck of a tank (Sherman type "M10 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage" built 1943 / USA) in memory of the battle of Moerbrugge (from 8 to 12 September 1944) and where 20 civilians, 48 Canadians and 104 Germans died.
On September 8, the attack was carried out by the Canadians. Robert A. Paterson (° 26/04/1916 Hamilton / Ontario - † 28/05/1999 Brantford / Ontario) of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, part of the 10 ° Canadian Infantry Brigade of the 4 ° Canadian Armored Division belonging to the 2nd army corps of the 1st Canadian army succeeded in forming a bridgehead. Moerbrugge formed the boundary between the two infantry divisions. When the bridgehead was formed, the Germans retreated behind the Leopolds and Schipdonk Canal.
