The Memorial at the Paradeplaats consists of three different plaques.
In the middle a Plaque has been placed on a little wall between two concrete pedestals.
The text on this Plaque can be translated as follows:
1940 – 1945
These are the names of the heroes
that fell during the battle
and who didn’t mind their own blood
they are an example for ever
Followed by the names of eighteen victims that have succumbed in concentration camps such as Vught, Neuengamme, Oraniënburg or Sachsenhausen. Executed at the Waalsdorpervlakte, the Drunensche Heide or Leusderheide. (These last three places are often used locations for executions by the German occupying forces).
Below this plaque a text:
Fellow citizens that died while in the resistance movement
To the left of this plaque there is a black plaque with 220 names of the victims of the municipality of Bergen op Zoom and a text:
Inhabitants of our community
that lost their lives
due to the violence of war
between 1940 – 1945
The plaque to the right is dedicated to those that died in the Dutch East Indies in the period 1945 – 1962.
