Memorial Anton van Duinkerken

Anton van Duinkerken, born in Bergen op Zoom, moved in 1929 to Amsterdam and became editor of the Newspaper De Tijd.
He was also the leader of the Catholic young people who had united around the literary magazine The Community.
Anton Van Duinkerken, Simon Vestdijk and a number of other prominent Dutch by the Germans because of their influence were considered dangerous, were taken hostage in the camp St. Michielsgestel.
Anton of Dunkirk in 1942 was almost eight months in Block V of the camp in Sint-Michielsgestel.

After the war he resumed his literary and journalistic work.
He wrote the poems including "The Swaying" and "Concentration".

Bergen op Zoom is also the Anton of Dunkirk Park named after him.
