ACCIDENTALLY EXECUTED
In 1943 at this place Pieter Hoppen from Rotterdam, was executed and buried by a local resistance group. They mistakenly took him for a traitor. In 2009 one of the involved members of the resistance revealed this secret.
In 2010 the remains of Pieter Hoppen were exhumed and reburied at the field of honour in Loenen. The local authority of Staphorst has placed a memorial cross at this location.
