This Synagogue is dedicated to the approximately 18,000 Jews from Cluj and surrounding areas who were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau between May and June 1944.
It was built in 1887 and badly damaged in 1927 by the Iron Guard. When Transylvania was returned to the Hungarians after the Vienna Diktat, it was used as a warehouse.
During the bombing of the Cluj train station on June 2, 1944, it was damaged again.
It was completely rebuilt in 1947.
