Remnants Coolsingel Hospital Rotterdam

The Coolsingel Hospital in Rotterdam was heavily damaged during the Second World War by the bombing on 14 May 1940, despite a large red cross on the roof. The patients could barely be evacuated. The outer walls were still standing with the entrance gate at the rear of the building.

The plane tree was planted in 1851 in the garden of the former Coolsingel hospital. In 1940, the tree survived the bombing of the city. The hospital was severely damaged.

The Coolsingelpoort and the Lijnbaan Plane Tree are the only tangible memories of the Coolsingel Hospital that stood on this site before the Second World War.
