Memorials Crash B-17-G Westzaanstraat Amsterdam

There are two monuments on Westzaanstraat in Amsterdam.

The Memorial on the wall of Westzaanstraat 71 remenber in Amsterdam at the three civilians who died in the crash of the Boeing B-17 G Flying Fortress on 22 march 1944 in World War II.
In this crash also hit five civilians wounded.

There is also a monument in the Westzaanplantsoen.
Sixty years later, the Westzaanstraat gave the 1944 airplane disaster a place with a statue in the Westzaanplantsoen "Farewell 2004".

This image is by Godelieve Smulders and refers to 2 events.
The first refers to the time when this district was not yet built and this park was still a cemetery. And the second is the American bomber that crashed on 3/22/1944.
The statue / monument consists of various segments built up granite column.
The segments are like raking, symbol for life (origin, growth and flying away).
The last bead of bronze with leaves forms the plane with a person on it, waving goodbye.
On the underside of the wings you can read "we too".
