Adisucipto International Airport

This airport was built in the 30's as an KNIL airfield and expanded with the help of U.S. Army Air Force, Far East Air Force (FEAF) 9th Bombardment Squadron.

It was captured by the Japanese on 8 March 1942 as the last Allied airfield in Indonesia. The Japanese army repaired the wreckage of B-17E 41-2471 here in 1942 and subsequently flew test flights with it.

The airfield was captured by Indonesien insurgents, after which it was handed over to the RAF in September 1945.

The airport's current name is derived from Agustinus Adisucipto, a pilot who was killed in an attack on Maguwo by the Dutch on July 29, 1947, when he was flying a Dakota VT-CLA for the Indonesian Air Force.
