In 1940, 'Kanonenbahn' play its dubious role. Despite regular damage caused by bombing, the railway remained until the spring of 1944 in frequent use. At the time of the invasion in June 1944 the Lahntalbahn was a prime target for Allied bombers. The supply of reinforcements to prevent the West had become: systematically bombed strategic bridges, tunnels and emplacements. The damage was so great that the Lahntalbahn after the war, in 1948, again in part, could be put into use.
