This coral memorial on the eastern flank of Bloody Nose Ridge is dedicated to the marines of the 1st U.S. Marine Division who fell in the fighting for this Ridge. Only after a month of heavy fighting and suffering heavy casualties, the U.S. army broke through the Japanese defence lines.
