Monument Halifax Mk.V s/n DK259 WL-L

In the triangle Hengelo, Enschede and Boekelo is, just before the junction with the Molenveld, along the Kwinkelerweg a small memorial to the downed crew of the Halifax Mk.V s / n DK259 WL-L.

The aircraft crashed near the Kwinkelerweg on 29 September 1943. The memorial was unveiled on September 29 2013. It includes a guestbook and a nice folder with the story of this device and its crew, illustrated with several pictures.

On the monument is the following text:

"Let us never forget our liberators, who were in solidarity with us and were willing to make great sacrifices in the struggle for freedom."

The monument was renovated 2023, with new paving and flagpoles installed. Photos 1,2,3 and 4 are current and post-renovation.
