In 1941 Franklin Delano Roosevelt, then President of the United States, set out the four freedoms that should apply for all men.
These four freedoms are reflected in a work of art by Nico van den Boezem, which is located near the Reformed church.
President Roosevelt's ancestors possibly originate from Oud-Vossemeer.
The text on the plaque is:
THE FOUR FREEDOMS
FREEDOM OF SPEECH
FREEDOM OF WORSHIP
FREEDOM FROM WANT
FREEDOM FROM FEAR
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A.
6 JANUARI 1941
