This airbase was built by the German occupation force during the Second World War and was subsequently used by the Luftwaffe. It was also used by the Allies after 1944, when it was heavily bombed during Unternehmen Bodenplatte.
On 1 June 1940, Adolf Hitler flew from Odedorf to Brussels airport where he met with Von Bock, Von Küchler and Von Reichenau. From Brussels, Hitler undertook a two-day field trip through Belgium and Northern France.
