This Memorial on the Südenfriedhof in Hamm commemorates the former French cemetery that has lain here during the Second World War. The French who were buried here during the war, have been transferred after the war to French war cemeteries in France. The monument was not transferred to the fact that the victims were put to rest in several French war cemeteries over the country, depending on the origin of the victim.
The stone was not removed from the cemetery in Hamm, but has been given a place at the German war graves plot. Previously, however, it was a standing monument, after moving the monument, it was placed on a new concrete base. This to prevent further fracture of the brittle material.
On the memorial is this French text:
ici reposent morts en captivité des francais
Which in English means: here rest in captivity deceased French
