Howie Bell Tower

This tower is in memory of Major Thomas Dry Howie who was killed on 9 July 1944 during an attack he led on the town of Saint-Lô in Normandy. For this action, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Major Howie was a former student of ‘The Citadel’ from Charleston. In the tower donated by two alumni of ‘The Citadel’ hangs a carillon of 59 bells made by the famous Van Bergen bell foundry in Heiligerlee.
