This informal memorial commemorates the more than 2000 French soldiers who were killed and the 1700 who went misssing in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu (Điện Biên Phủ), from 13 March to 7 May 1954, as well as the almost 8000 who died as prisoner-of-war after the Battle. The memorial is now restored and contains many personal plaques.
