This memorial, in a rubber plantation, is one of the very few non-vietnamese war memorials in Vietnam (almost all memorials were destroyed after 1975) and commemorates the battle in Long Tân of the D Company of the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR) against Vietnamese communist troops, on 18 August 1966. In the battle, 18 Australian and at least 245 Communist soldiers were killed.
The monument is a replica of the original Long Tan Cross, which was erected by Australian forces in 1969 and is now on display at the Dong Nai Museum.
