Monument of Desire for National Reunification

This monument in Xuân Ḥa called Desire for National Reunification represents the longing for a reunification of North Vietnam and South Vietnam. In 1954, the country was split up into North and South. Exactly at this location was the border marked by the river Ben Hai. This location is known as the 17th parallel and is located exactly in the former demilitarized zone (DMZ). The monument stands in front of the bridge linking the former North Vietnam and South Vietnam together. 21 years, the two parts of the country were separated, the monument commemorates this time in the past.
