Welch Fusiliers Monument

This memorial is dedicated by the Royal Welch Fusiliers in honored memory of the 25 officers and men of their 4th, 6th and 7th battalions (158 Infantry Brigade) and 8 others of the regiment, who've their lives in the cause of freedom during the liberation of Normandy, between June and August 1944.

It also pays tribute to the suffering of the French people, especially those who lot their lives at this time.

The monument is located at the de Ferme de Mondeville feature. At 16/17 July 1944 the 158 Infantry Brigade made several attempts to take the height, but the attacks were repelled several times by the Germans.

On 4 August 1944 the German troops finally retreated to the east bank of the Orne and Évrecy was liberated at last.
