Three stainless steel panels bear the names of 8 Dutch and 79 Allied aircrews who fell in the Second World War above or on the territory of the island Hoeksche Waard. On the fourth panel a description of why the monument is there.
The design was made by the "Monument Air War Hoeksche Waard 1940-1945" foundation and the steel plate on top of the monument of Mrs. J. E. de Man de Geus. The plate has the shape of the island Hoeksche Waard in which a B24 Bomber is carved accompanied by 5 Spitfires. The whole was unveiled on 6 June 2015 in the presence of 32 relatives from the Netherlands and abroad and representatives of 7 embassies.
On May 13, 2017, next to the existing war memorial, a digital war memorial was unveiled by students of group 8 of primary school De Klinker from Oud-Beijerland. This school has also adopted the digital monument. There are 23 blue QR code tiles in the monument. Via a QR code reader app on a smartphone or tablet you can read about the last flight of the aircraft, which are on the panels of the existing monument. There are also 28 white QR code tiles where the life stories of crew members can be read whose name is also on the existing monument. Finally, 3 green QR code tiles with general information. With this monument, the existing static monument has become a living monument.
