Remains Klessin Castle

The villages Klessin and Whuden belonged to a defence-line during the Battle of Seelöwer Heights. They were defended by 800 German soldiers, against three Soviet-Divisions.
After several requests to headquarters (which were initially all refused), 100 men escaped at the end of the battle.

In Klessin are the fundaments of the destroyed castle and trenches still visible.

In 2023, this place was unveiled after being transformed into a memorial by the local population. The battlefield is now easy to visit and various information boards are present. The village of Klessin was completely destroyed and was never rebuilt.
