From 2 May 1992 on, Sarajevo was besieged by the Serbian Army during 1425 days. During that time, the city was hit by 329 grenades a day on average. Besides that, snipers were also active.
During the siege 11,541 residents, including 1,500 children, were killed and 56,000 injured.
Throughout the years, the city was intensively renovated, but on the Old Jewish Cemetery (Jevrejsko groblje) there are still many traces of the shootings.
