Roermond National Memorial Park

The Nationaal Herdenkingspark Roermond contains a number of memorials which forms together the "National Dutch-Indies Memorial 1945-1962". Besides that, there is also the Memorial for Peacekeeping Operations

National Dutch-Indies Memorial 1945-1962
On the obelisk, the oldest part of the memorial park, is a crown dove, the symbol of New Guinea.

On the columns are the names of the 6229 Dutch servicemen who died in the conflicts in the Dutch East Indies (1945-1949) and New Guinea (1949-1962)

A new memorial (erected on 25 August 1990) is in memory of the civilian casualties in the conflicts in the Dutch Indies (1945-1949) and New Guinea(1949-1962).

Memorial General S.H. Spoor
This monument, in the National Remembrance Park Roermond, commemorates General Simon Hendrik Spoor, supreme commander of the Dutch Forces in the Dutch Indies from 1947 to his death (heart failure) on 25 May 1949.

During World War II, he was active in the Dutch Indies, after his escape, he became commander of the Dutch Intelligence Service in SouthEast Asia (Netherlands Forces Intelligence Service).

He is buried on the Menteng Pulo War Cemetery in Jakarta.

Plaques Dutch Army Units
The 170+ plaques, in the National Remembrance Park Roermond, are in memory of the men of the Dutch Guards Regiments, Grenadiers and Rifles who were killed in the conflicts in the Dutch Indies and New Guinea.

Fountain
This fountain, in the National Remembrance Park Roermond, remembers with the Buffalo heads to the Dutch East Indies. The watercourse is reminiscent of the rice fields.
