Hermann Stein was married on October 22, 1923 in Essen. The couple fled in 1936 from Essen to Leek, where they lived at the address E 66, now Hoofdstraat 241 in Oostwold. To provide for his maintenance, Hermann Stein traveled around the area with a suitcase of merchandise. His wife survived the war.
