Fort McNab on McNab's Island was a fortress build to defend Halifax Harbor. In the Second World War, it was expanded with searchlights, observation points and a gun emplacement to cover the anti-submarine net.
In 1944 and 1945 the Canadian Army used McNab's Island as an isolated prison for soldiers convicted of crimes.
Nowadays Fort McNab is a National Historic Site.
