War Memorial Dairomont

The memorial contains a plaque with a French and Dutch text. This text can be translated as following:

On the 4th of January 1945, Company ‘A’ of the 551st Parachute Infantry Batallion under the command of Lt. Richard Durkee carried out one of the rare bayonet attacks of the Second World War, not far from this spot.
The American paratroopers neutralized a German machine-gun position inflicting heavy losses to the enemy soldiers who outnumbered them.
