During the Siege of Sarajevo, this tunnel was build under the runway of the airport, between March and June 1993. The tunnel, with a total length of 800 meters, was used until the end of the siege and millions of people and large amounts of supplies passed through the tunnel. It was the only entrance and exit of the city.
The entrance on the Dobrinja side was the garage of an apartment building. The entrance on the Butmir side was a house near the airport, which is now a museum.
Nowadays not much is left of the tunnel. A small part is restorated.
