In the Breite Straße, one of the busiest shoppingstreets of Cologne, in front of the perfume-shop Douglas, are these Stumbling Stones (so called Stolpersteine) located. These memorial stones commemorate Julius Levi and Henriette Levi, murdered in Lodz.
The small copper plaques in the pavement mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.
In many other German cities the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. In Cologne alone, there were already 1,700 Stolpersteine.
