The "Nippon Maru" was built in 1930 and used as training ship and for transport missions during the Second World War. After the war, the ship shipped back 25.428 returnees and the remains of fallen Japanese soldiers. The "Nippon Maru" also participated in special missions during the Korea War, where it transported U.S. military and South Korean refugees.
