This park is dedicated to Lieutenant General Nogi Maresuke; one of the five most important Japanese officers of the Russo-Japanese War.
General Nogi Maresuke and his wife committed Seppuku (ritual suicide) in his house on 13 September 1912. In his suicide letter, the general said that he wished to expiate for the 56,000 casualties at Port Arthur.
