Oswald Stoll donated the money to found this building named after him in 1916, which served to care for disabled World War I soldiers. On the entrance gate of the building now largely owned by Chelsea Football Club are the names of the great field and naval battles of World War I.
The Sir Oswald Stoll Organisation, founded during World War I by the theatre and film-maker of the same name, still supports ex-military personnel today, in recognition of the sacrifices they have made for our country and with the problems (such as alcoholism, homelessness and mental health problems) they may face after leaving the army.
