This memorial honours Princess Alexandra’s Royal Airforce Hospital that once stood here. The hospital took casualties from various theatres of war from 1941 until 1995. These theatres are reflected in the road names in the new housing development that has risen in its place.
Ths hospital was also used in 1991 for John McCarthy, Terry Waite and Jackie Mann, who were hostages in Beirut for a very long time, for the counselling necessary to ease them back into freedom.
