These plaques on the Church of San Fermín de los Navarros commemorate:
- The members of the parish who fought on the Nationalist side and were killed or missing in the Spanish Civil War.
- The local clergymen who were murdered by the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. They are considered martyrs of the Spanish Civil War.
From 1936 to 1939, 6832 members of the Catholic clergy were executed without trial, sometimes after they were tortured, by Republicans because of their faith and monasteries and churches were destroyed. It is referred to as Spain's Red Terror, in which also tens of thousands of other people were murdered.
Nowadays, the policy is that many Nationalist memorials are no longer maintained. If they are damaged by the lack of maintenance or due to vandalism (which happens often), then they are often removed.
