Memorial Thomas Patten

This memorial commemorates Thomas Patten from Achill, who fought in the International Brigades on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. He was killed at Boadilla del Monte on the night of 16/17 December 1936, defending the city against the Nationalists. He was the first person from an English-speaking country and the first Irishman of 74 killed in the Spanish Civil War.
