This plaque commemorates Otto and Hedwig Hintze, both well-known historics who lived and worked here.
Because she was Jewish, Hedwig fled to the Netherlands in 1939. Otto stayed behind, old and almost blind. He died a few months later.
On 19 July 1942, Hedwig committed suicide in Utrecht, just before she was deported to an extermination camp.
