Memorial Former Tarakan War Cemetery

225 Australian soldiers of the 26th Brigade, 9th Division, 2nd Australian Imperial Force were once buried here. They were killed in the Battle of Tarakan (1 May - 21 June 1945) or died due to their wounds until 15 August 1945. The cemetery was built on the site of a Imperial Japanese Army shrine from 1942, dedicated to the 255 Japanese casualties of the battle for Tarakan in 1942. The shrine was demolished in June 1945.

Only the original cemetery memorial is standing here.
