The National Holocaust Museum focuses on the persecution of Jews in the Netherlands. Before World War II, Jews and non-Jews here lived with, alongside and alongside each other. They had the same rights. During the occupation, the Nazis murdered around six million Jews in Europe. This is known as the Holocaust or Shoah. Of the Jewish population in the Netherlands, three quarters were murdered.
The daily life of Jews prior to the Second World War, the liberation as Jews experienced it and the handling of the Holocaust in our national culture of remembrance are also covered in the museum. The National Holocaust Museum presents history without restraint and gives the victims a recognisable face.
The museum route follows a timeline against the wall the ‘crimes wallpaper’ showing in order the anti-Jewish measures that began right after the occupation began and ended with deportation and murder.
