War Memorial Maasland

The monument is a memorial wall with two embedded memorial stones of natural stone. The designer is A. Warnaar.

The text on the first memorial stone reads:
‘THE FATHERLAND FAITHFUL
1940 – 1945
JAN DE BLOOIS
ABRAHAM EIJGENRAAM
BASTIAAN VAN BUUREN
IN THEM WE HONOUR ALL
THOSE WHO FELL IN THE BATTLE
AGAINST THE INVADER’.

The text on the second memorial stone reads:
‘1945 – 1949
MISSING – A SHORT MESSAGE –
NO PLACE NO TIME FOR FAREWELL.
THE VIEW OPENED RADIANTLY
‘HE HAS LED ME SAFELY HOME’
HENK VAN AALST
MISSING ON 7-10-1947
IN THE FORMER DUTCH EAST INDIES’.

Originally, the memorial stood on the Huis te Veldelaan. The monument was unveiled there on 4 May 1955 by the Oranje Committee. In 1994, it was moved to the Hofsingel. At the initiative of the Association of Former Military Personnel from the East Indies, a second memorial stone was added to the monument.
On 4 May 2024, the name of Bastiaan van Buuren was added to the first memorial stone.
