War Memorial Sinaai

This memorial commemorates the residents of Sinaai who were killed or missing in the First World War.

War memorial for the fallen of the First World War, stating:
" SINAY - TO HIS HEROES".
It was unveiled on October 10, 1920 and stands next to the cemetery.
The signed monument is a design by master builder Van der Gucht from Antwerp and was sculpted by the local stonemason Ch. Willems from Lokeren.

A three-dimensional sculpture group in white stone is arranged around a high column.
This column ends upwards in a double cross shape and stands on a circular base, decorated with laurel wreaths around a half-raised wheel with the half-raised heads of roaring lions between them.

At the front on a raised block is the life-sized statue of the Sacred Heart.
On either side of the cross, two figures sit on an eminence: on the right a tired, resting soldier and on the left a mourning woman dressed in long robes and veil.
The strongly emotionally charged sculpture group with great religious symbolism refers to heroism and silent deep mourning.
