Belgian Wargraves Tignée-Evegnée

The Tignée-Evegnée cemetery contains a monument to 13 soldiers who either came from the village or died here.

Nine soldiers are buried in front of the monument;

BAECKELANDT Henri, age 21, lieutenant in the 14th Line Regiment, killed in action on August 6, 1914.

DUCACHET Joseph, age 23, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, died 2 days before his 24th birthday on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

DUMONT Lambert, age 20, soldier with the artillerie de fortresse de Liège (A.F.L.) at fort Evegnée, killed 5 days before his 21st birthday on August 11, 1914.

DE LONEUX Albert, age 23, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

JARDON Lucien, age 23, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

LATAIRE Jean, age 22, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed during a patrol on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

LEJEUNE Louis, age 22, soldier with the 12th Line Regiment, killed on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

TIXHON Jean, age 24, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

VERJANS Mathieu, age 23, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed on August 6, 1914 at Tignée-Evegnée.

The other four soldiers commemorated are;

BEAUJEAN Armand, age 28, soldier with the 12th Line Regiment, died of pulmonary tuberculosis in the hospital at Montepellier (F) on March 30, 1918.

BLOEM Henri, age 28, soldier with the 10th Line Regiment, died at the hospital of the Institute of Our Lady at Saint-Michiels on November 20, 1918.

HOSAY Mathieu, age 33, soldier with the artillerie de fortresse de Liège (A.F.L.) of fort Evegnée, died 1 day after the armistice on November 12, 1918 at Lauback-Hameln (D) from the effects of probably Spanish flu.

WENIN Edouard, age 35, soldier on the ambulance with the Troupes administratives du service de santé (T.A.S.S.), died as a result of an accident at Ostend station on October 13, 1914.

Also buried separately is a soldier who died during the 2nd World War;

LEJEUNE Chrétien, age 20, soldier with the Regiment Fortresse de Liège (R.F.L.) at Fort Evegnée, wounded during patrol on May 13, 1940 and died of wounds on May 16, 1940.
