Chiune Sugihara Park

This park with Japanese blossoms commemorates Chiune Sugihara.

Chiune Sugihara was the Japanese consul in Lithuania. He saved the lives of thousands of Jews by - illegally- giving them visa for Japan. He also arranged the trip to Japan for many of them. He worked together with the Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk.

Chiune Sugihara and Jan Zwartendijk were awarded by Yad Vashem as Righteous among the Nations.
