Stumbling Stones Pastor-Boelitz-Straße 29

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine or stumbling blocks) that were laid here in 2010 and 2020 commemorate:

Paulina Günther-Klein, born in 1873, lived here and was deported in 1941
to Lodz in 1942 murdered in Chelmno.
Sybilla Günther, born in 1904, lived here and was deported to Łodz in 1941
and murdered in Chelmno in 1942.
Jakob Scherer, synagogue minister, lived here until 1935, his fate is unknown.

The stone for Jakob Scherer was added later.

The small brass plaques of 10 by 10 cm, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities and villages, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
