Belgian Graves Veterans Mol

Erepark Kruisven cemetery in Mol contains a number of graves of veterans from the Second World War. Also here are the graves of former resistance fighters and political prisoners. Some of them survived the war, some did.

A glass with the names of political prisoners who died in deportation is attached to the memorial wall in the park.

Ludo van Eeckhout (Ludo van Eck)
This cemetery also contains Ludo van Eeckhout (also known as Ludo van Eck) (1922-1991). Although Ludo is not a veteran, but a political prisoner, he and his comrade resistance fighters, who may or may not have survived Dachau, have been given a final resting place in the park of honor.

Ludo was arrested in March 1944 in Mol for taking part in armed resistance and for hiding and helping English, Canadian and American pilots to escape.
He was incarcerated in the prison of Antwerp (5th section), transferred to a detention center in Bayreuth and from there to concentration camp Dachau. He survived and devoted the rest of his life to publicizing the terrible events in the camps through books and lectures. He received the highest American award, the Medal of Freedom, with a certificate from General Eisenhower and an award from the British Air Chief Marshall Tedder.

On the memorial wall are the many friends and family of Ludo, such as Missotten Calixte, (1929-15 June 1945) who died when he had just arrived in a hospital in Brussels.
