This Stolperstein (also called Stumbling Stone) commemorates Albrecht Binkle, murdered by the Nazis.
Albrecht Binkle was 45 when he was murdered as a result of "Aktion T4" on January 27th, 1941, by euthanasia at extermination institute Hadamar in the German federal state of Hessen.
(JG stands for Jahr Geborte, the year of birth, 1895.)
He had been under the care of Heilanstalt (nursing home) Homburg, and from 1939 to Anstalt Weilmüster. On Jan. 27th, 1941, he was "verlegt," "transferred" to Hadamar and murdered by euthanasia that same day.
Aktion T4 was the code name for NAZI Germany's euthanasia program. People with mental or physical disabilities were compulsorily sterilized or murdered by euthanasia under this program. The aim was to preserve the genetic purity of Germanic race by systematically killing all people with mental or physical defects or preventing their reproduction by sterilization.
A little further down Hauptstraße 16 is a stolperstein for Joachim Hirsch, age 40, who was also killed as a result of Action T4 by euthanasia on Jan. 31th, 1941.
The small brass plaques of 10 by 10 cm, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted and mostly murdered by the National-Socialists, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.
In many other cities and villages, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
