The plaque at the entrance to the fort at Eben-Emael commemorates the Belgian soldiers who either died defending the fort on May 10 and 11, 1940, or died in captivity or as members of the resistance. The plaque contains 47 names of fallen soldiers.
On this plaque there was a name for a time that was later removed because the soldier in question later volunteered for service in the Waffen SS and died on the Eastern Front.
Another name was added later because it was mistakenly not included.
The commemorative plate in the Fort of Eben-Emael is in memory of 23 soldiers of the Fortress Artillery Regiment who fell in the defence of the fort on 10 and 11 May 1940.
