This Japanese cargo vessel was unsuccesfuly torpedoed by the USS Grunion on 31 July 1942. The U.S. submarine was (presumably) sunk by a combination of one of the three fired torpedo (that circled back) and a jammed rear dive plane. The next morning, the Japanese vessel was towed to Kiska harbor where it was attacked by U.S. naval bombers on 15 September 1942. The wreck ran aground more than a mile northwest of Kiska harbor.
