Nome Airport

During WW2 Nome Airfield shared its runway with the USAAF for the transfer of Land Lease aircraft to Russia and from 1942 for air defence of the western coast of Alaska. The military side was called Marks Army Airfield after Major Jack s. Marks, a USAAF pilot who was shot down and killed over the Aleutians in July 1942.
