American Civil War Memorial McPherson County

This memorial (often named "Soldiers Monument" or "Soldiers and Sailors Monument") in McPherson Central Park commemorates the residents of McPherson County who served in the Union and gave their lives in the American Civil War (1861-1865).

James Birdseye McPherson (14 November 1828 – 22 July 1864), a general of the Union, was killed at the Battle of Atlanta. He was the second highest ranking Union officer killed during the war.
